Zahal Disabled Veterans Organisation (ZDVO) is a national organisation whose main aim is to support the rehabilitation and wellbeing of Israel’s 60,000 wounded soldiers and victims of terror. Since October 7th, 8,504 people have been recognized as Zahal Disabled Veterans including 2111 diagnosed with PTSD. As the war continues, sadly, the number of injured continues to grow. As the only organisation in Israel legally responsible for the welfare of injured soldiers, ZDVO Beit Halochem stands strong with the newly wounded veterans and their families, recognizing the multi-layered challenges they face in their rehabilitation journey providing them with as much support as possible. ZDVO’s state of the art Beit Halochem rehabilitation centres located in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa and Be’er Sheva boast an array of exceptional rehabilitative services and activities including physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, PTSD therapy groups, sports programs, specialized equipment, family-oriented programs, cultural activities and academic scholarships. Construction of a much needed fifth Beit Halochem in Ashdod which will house the national centre for PTSD is underway and is due for completion in December 2025. With an emphasis on sport as a method of rehabilitation, many members become elite sportsmen and sportswomen representing Israel internationally in wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, and wheelchair dancing competitions as well as in the Paralympic Games. ZDVO’s holistic approach encompasses physical, emotional, psychological, financial, and social aspects of recovery. With the expansion of demand for services, ZDVO is already absorbing the thousands of newly wounded soldiers joining the ranks as well as the thousands more anticipated.
